Featured AI Leader: Tara Thompson

We’re excited to present Tara Thompson as a Featured AI Leader.

Let’s get to know how Tara and how she is using AI.

1. How is AI impacting your work?

I live for having time to be more productive, (irony?) creative and strategic. Using AI allows me to explore the world of tech from a non-technical user’s perspective and helps me think more creatively and apply alternative strategic approaches to tasks. I truly see the Generative AI tools I use as assistants; there to lighten the load and bounce ideas off. And in turn, I want to share my knowledge with others.

2. How do you use AI in your daily life?

How do I answer this? 😂 I have created around 30 GPTs. I subscribe to Claude Pro and Perplexity, and I use Async and Pi daily. I feel as if I've cut hours out of my Google time. I've also created a journaling system with Pi.ai. I use AI for work, home, and fun. Everything I do, I think... how could an AI system help me with this?

3. What is your favorite AI tool right now?

Castmagic. It's an AI tool I've been gatekeeping, not on purpose, but I want to really give do it justice. So much so, I've decided to promote it. It turns audio into content in a thousand different ways. What started out as a tool for podcasters has quickly become a tool for anyone who records audio. Sales meetings, internal meetings, YouTube videos, TikTok videos, or, if you're anything like me, audio notes to yourself.

4. What advice do you have for someone who is just getting started with AI?

Don't believe the hype; experience it for yourself. Practice, learn, and practice some more! The key is to have hands-on experience, which beats passive listening any time. Many people say they don't know where to start, and so I tell them: Open ChatGPT, tell it a problem you want to solve, and then chat with it like you would a human assistant. Too many people input something and then read the output and say it's rubbish. Don't stop before you've started! (Oh, and additional advice, use the audio feature if you don't like typing!)

5. Who should we follow in the AI space?

Allie K. Miller, Heather Murray, Jenny Kay Pollock, Margarat Vo, Shereese Floyd

6. How can women in AI support each other? Say no to non-inclusive gigs. Suggest other women, for example, if you're invited to be on a panel or to an event. Mentor a woman. Start a group with women in AI. Suggest coffee chats. They don't need to be far on their journey, they may not have even started. If we're encouraging women to start where they are, we should be there with them even if we're at a different part of our journey.
